Speed Required
Given sail, required dock ETA, pilotage, distance, and optional whale-zone segments: the SOG you need on open water.
Offline calculators for Speed Required, Best ETA, Latest ETD, and bunker estimates, with Zone Description and whale-zone rules built in.
What it does
Sail → pilot out → open water → pilot in → dock. Times are wall-clock at each port’s Zone Description (ZD), the same way officers work on paper.
Given sail, required dock ETA, pilotage, distance, and optional whale-zone segments: the SOG you need on open water.
Sail time plus SOG forward to pilot-station arrival and dock ETA at the arrival ZD.
Working back from a required dock ETA: latest sail and departure that still make the window.
Cube-law bunker estimate from two reference speeds / MT-day points, plus an optional burn band.
Try it
Same core math as the apps: no vessel profiles, no saved routes, nothing stored in your browser. Defaults match a CHS-HOU style passage.
Apps
The native apps add saved routes, vessel profiles, and shareable summaries, with the same ZD-aware math you just tried.

On your device only, shipETA may store information you enter to use the product, such as:
This information is not transmitted to us. Deleting the app removes the local database according to your device’s normal uninstall behavior. We do not operate a cloud backup of your shipETA data.
The native apps do not:
If you use Export / Share (for example PDF or text summaries), content leaves the app through your device’s share sheet to destinations you choose (email, Files, messaging apps, and so on). Those destinations are governed by their own privacy policies. We do not receive a copy of shared exports unless you send them to us.
The browser calculator on this page runs locally in your browser. Voyage inputs are not submitted to our servers for calculation or storage. This site is a static page hosted by Netlify; like most websites, the host may process standard technical request logs (such as IP address, user agent, and timestamps) under Netlify’s privacy policy. We do not use those logs to identify individual officers or voyage plans.
When you download shipETA from the Apple App Store or Google Play (when available), Apple or Google may collect information according to their own policies. We do not control that collection. Links for reference: Apple Privacy Policy, Google Privacy Policy.

shipETA is a voyage planning aid. Results are estimates based on the values you enter and are not a substitute for official navigation systems, company procedures, or the Master’s judgment. Always cross-check ETAs, speeds, and bunker figures with approved methods before use.
